In order to further improve the safety of our operations, decrease the
number of accidents and fulfil our growing responsibilities for a range
of occupational safety requirements, it was decided in late 2008 to integrate
an occupational safety management system into our established quality
management system over the next three years and to have it audited and
certified by Germanischer Lloyd.
The six companies Willems Stahl in Neuss, Interfer Stahl in Frankfurt/Main,
Dortmund and Bremen, SHG Saarlouis and the Walter Patz steel service centre
were selected for pilot deployment. After months of intensive preparation
and the integrated audit by Germanischer Lloyd in late summer, KNAUF INTERFER
was informed about the results in early November in the presence of the
Management Board. No deviations were observed, which means that in addition
to the group certificate according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008, the first
six companies were also certified according to OHSAS 18001:2007.

The success of this project has motivated us to continue along this path.
Consequently, the integrated management system will be introduced at the
next six companies in 2010: Interfer Rohrunion and Interfer Präzisrohr,
Michael Friess in Memmingen, Max Baum steel service and Interfer Stahl
in Magdeburg and Regensburg.
